Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from my first visit?

Hypnotherapy in Basildon, Essex - Confidential & professional therapy Your first appointment is your free 30 minute initial consultation - we will talk about the issues you want to resolve and what might be the best method to deal with them. If this is agreed upon then we will schedule your first hypnotherapy session and begin working with your subconscious. The exception to this is if you schedule an appointment for “Stop Smoking” - this is a single session, lasts around two hours and includes hypnotherapy.

What does hypnosis/hypnotherapy feel like?

It is a different feeling for everyone; there is no right or wrong and certainly no standard reaction. Some people say they feel feel a deep calm and sensation of relaxation, others say their limbs feel “heavy” while others report feeling tingly or “light and floaty”. Everyone's experience is unique and some feel nothing specific, just very relaxed.

As a hypnotherapist I will use my voice to help guide you in a state of both mental and physical relaxation - to an outsider you might look as though you are sleeping but you will actually just feel very relaxed yet will remain fully aware of everything. Whilst you are in this state of relaxation I will work with your subconscious mind, which can be more receptive to constructive suggestions or exploration, to help stimulate positive changes. If at any time you feel uncomfortable and want to terminate the session, then you will be perfectly capable of doing so.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Hypnotherapy in Basildon, Essex - Confidential & professional therapyMost people can be hypnotised; the exceptions are those who are mentally subnormal, very young children or those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Everybody else (who really wants to) can be hypnotised. If somebody does not and can not understand what is expected of them, or if they are resisting for some reason, they will have difficulty entering hypnosis.

Those who tend to respond the best to hypnotherapy are people who have a strong mind, great concentration, imagination and who are self determined to achieve their goals!

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No you can't. It is impossible to get "stuck" in hypnosis; you can leave the hypnotic state yourself at any point simply by deciding that is what you want to do. You are conscious & aware throughout.

Will I suddenly do stupid things like act like a chicken afterwards or during my session?

Definitely not.

Can I be hypnotised against my will?

No, absolutely not! I need your full co-operation and agreement in order to provide treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different; people have diverse issues to deal with so it is impossible to be precise about how many sessions you will need but I will give guidance on this during your free consultation.

What if my problem seems a bit silly or rather embarrassing?

Hypnotherapy in Basildon, Essex - Confidential & professional therapy I have been trained to deal with everyone’s issue professionally, discretely & empathetically. I will not judge you nor will I repeat what you tell me as part of your therapy; all information is treated confidentially. Many people with problems that they think are a bit silly are often surprised to find that their particular issue or fear is shared by a lot of other people and could be treated quickly & effectively using hypnotherapy. A hypnotherapist cannot make you divulge any secrets or information you do not want to willingly share; however to receive the very best therapy you do need to be as honest as possible about your problems.

Can a hypnotherapist guarantee results?

No. Hypnotherapy is not a solution for every problem; but it could be an effective treatment for many problems where psychological factors are present. A doctor could not guarantee a prescribed medication will always work, neither can a hypnotherapist guarantee results because everyone is different.

Is hypnotherapy an "alternative" therapy?

No. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. Clients with medical issues must first consult their doctor for agreement before proceeding with hypnotherapy and continue to take any prescribed medication.
